Want to know how far 10,000 steps really is, or how many calories your walk burned? Enter the step count from your phone or fitness tracker, then your height and weight, and tap your walking pace. The calculator estimates your step length from your height, turns your steps into miles (or kilometers), and shows the calories burned, the extra calories above resting, and roughly how long the walk took. Use the toggle to switch between US units and metric. Results are estimates for walking on flat ground: your real stride, hills and a heavy backpack all change the numbers.

Estimate only, for walking on flat ground. Not medical or dietary advice.

How it works: step length ≈ 0.414 × your height (a common walking estimate), distance = steps × step length, and time = distance ÷ pace speed. Calories = MET × weight (kg) × hours, using MET values from the Compendium of Physical Activities (2.8 slow, 3.5 average, 4.3 brisk, 5.0 fast); “above resting” subtracts the 1 MET your body burns anyway. Trackers, hills and fitness level all shift the real numbers, and running steps are longer, so this under-counts running distance — treat every result as an estimate.
