Have a measurement in inches and need centimeters — or a size in cm you want in inches? Pick the direction, then type the number or tap a common size. Tape-measure fractions work too: type 5 3/8, or pick the fraction from the menu next to the box. For height, switch to Feet + inches and enter something like 5 ft 7 in. You get centimeters, millimeters and meters; going from cm you also get the nearest 1/16 inch as it reads on a tape measure, feet and inches, and height to the nearest inch. Type a TV size to see its width and height. The chart below highlights the row you’re on.
How it works: since 1959 the inch has been defined as exactly 2.54 cm, so centimeters = inches × 2.54 and inches = centimeters ÷ 2.54 (about × 0.3937). A foot is 12 inches (30.48 cm) and a yard is 36 inches (91.44 cm). Tape-measure readings are rounded to the nearest 1/16 inch (about 1.6 mm), and screen width and height assume a 16:9 TV or monitor measured diagonally — check the maker’s spec sheet before you buy a stand, mount or cabinet.
