Add up the hours on your time card without a spreadsheet. Pick 1 day for a single shift, or Mon–Fri or Full week for a weekly timesheet. For each day, enter the time you clocked in and out and your unpaid break in minutes, such as a 30-minute lunch. Tap a quick-fill button like 9 AM–5 PM to fill Monday to Friday, then change any day that was different, and leave days you didn’t work blank. Shifts that run past midnight are handled for you. You get your total in hours and minutes and in decimal hours for payroll. Add your hourly rate to estimate gross pay, with overtime after 40 hours at time and a half.
How it works: hours for each day = clock-out time − clock-in time − unpaid break. If the clock-out time is earlier than the clock-in time, the shift is counted as running past midnight. Decimal hours = minutes ÷ 60, so 7 h 45 min is 7.75 hours, the number most payroll systems use. Gross pay = hours × hourly rate. With overtime turned on, hours over 40 in the week are paid at 1.5 × your rate, the US federal rule for most hourly jobs. Some states, such as California, also pay overtime after 8 hours in a day, and employers may round punch times, so treat the pay as an estimate. Under US federal rules, short rest breaks of 5 to 20 minutes are usually paid, so only enter breaks you weren’t paid for.
