Drove your own car for work and need to claim it back? Enter the miles for one trip, how many trips you made and the rate per mile, and the calculator shows the reimbursement total, the amount per trip and the total miles. Tap a preset to use the 2026 IRS rate for business, medical or charity driving, or type the rate your employer pays — dollars (0.70) or cents (70) both work. Switch to Round trip if you only know the one-way distance, and add tolls and parking if your employer pays those too. UK drivers can switch to HMRC rates (45p / 25p for cars).

Estimate only, not tax advice. Your employer's policy decides what you are actually paid.

How it works: reimbursement = distance per trip × trips (× 2 for round trips) × rate per mile, plus any tolls and parking. The IRS business rate is 72.5¢ a mile for driving from January 1 to June 30, 2026 and 76¢ from July 1, 2026 (medical rose from 20.5¢ to 23.5¢; charity stays at 14¢). Many employers pay the IRS rate, but they don’t have to. In the UK, HMRC’s approved rate for cars and vans is 45p a mile for the first 10,000 business miles in a tax year and 25p after that.
