Not sure whether a 55, 65 or 75-inch TV fits your room? Measure from where your eyes will be on the couch to where the screen will hang, then enter that distance — or tap a common room. Pick how you watch: Everyday for news and sports, Balanced for a mix, or Cinema for movies that fill your view. Choose 4K or 1080p, because sharper screens can be bigger at the same distance. The calculator shows the best size, the closest common TV size, and how each popular size will look from your seat. Switch to Metric for meters.

Estimate only, based on common home theater guidelines (SMPTE 30° and THX 40° field of view). Your eyesight, room layout and what you watch matter too — if you sit far off to the side, a slightly smaller screen often looks better.

How it works: the guideline is that the screen should fill about 30°–40° of your view. For a 16:9 TV, screen width = diagonal × 0.872, and best diagonal = 2 × distance × tan(angle ÷ 2) ÷ 0.872. At 8 ft (96 in) and 35°, that is about a 69-inch TV. The pixel check uses 1 arcminute (normal 20/20 vision): beyond that size, a 1080p or 4K picture starts to look soft from your seat.
